Soho House is a Grade 2, iconic listed building on Brightons seafront, a sumptuously decorated private members club, part of the global Soho House club global network. It represents Soho Houses’ third UK venue outside of London and its first coastal site. Internationally, it vies with other Soho House sites including New York City, Istanbul, Hong Kong and Barcelona, each one uniquely reflecting its locality.

The £60 million Soho House Brighton project features a roof terrace pool, a club space with bar, a Club Cecconi restaurant, plus permanent art and event spaces.

No less striking is the exterior. It features a curved stone-topped wall with sea views and a terrace pool. It is primarily glass fronted and its design reflects the seaside ambience and local Art Deco architecture. To maintain the overall style of the building, SPSenvirowall’s Cavity System 1 (CS1) was chosen with a white textured silicone render.

This external wall insulation system was expertly installed by Simbi Ltd.

Chosen both for its KIWA BDA classification and for having an A rated fire classification, Cavity System 1 benefits from EuroClass A1 components and includes a drainage space between the cladding and sheathed framed structure, ensuring any potential water is drained.

It is constructed using 100mm Mono high density mineral wool board fixed to 15mm thick 125mm wide fillets fixed vertically. These 15mm fillets create the minimum drained cavity of 15mm.

The façade included a topcoat of Flexisil, a combination of an acrylic base with silicone enhanced additives offering the flexibility and extensive colour choice of acrylic with the water repellency and enhanced cleansing properties of silicone.

Given its ability to withstand extreme weathering, movement and structure, Cavity System 1 provided an ideal foundation for the application of our thin-coat render systems As demonstrated on this project, the CS1 system is adaptive enough to accommodate a modern aesthetic of white render and glazed balconies yet strong enough to perform within an environment which is regularly exposed to high marine winds and salt spray.
