The Bridlington, West Hill estate refurbishment project incorporated a range of building types which included detached, semi-detached and bungalow properties. The project required major refurbishment to enhance the aesthetic appearance and upgrade the thermal efficiency of the properties.

The low-rise project required bespoke detailing to meet the desired exterior finish as the properties are full Rendabrick finishes which is rarely delivered. It was important to match the exterior finish of the properties in the area that replicated a traditional brick façade. The finish was achieved using the K Systems Rendabrick finish which is applied to a K Systems base coat in two different coloured render coats, which is a wet coat on top of a wet coat. The top coat is then intricately cut to expose the mortar layer creating the desired brick effect finish.

In conjunction with achieving the exterior finish of the properties, meeting and surpassing the building regulations was at the forefront of the project. The project team achieved this by specifying the BBA accredited K Systems P external wall insulation system. The Phenolic EWI system is a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core that is faced with glass tissue. K Systems P external wall insulation system has excellent thermal conductivity and facilitates a lower overall construction thickness meaning it can surpass the building regulations u-value requirement of 0.25 w(m2K) and can therefore future proof the thermal performance of the properties.

The project received weekly visits from the K Systems site technician to inspect progress and to ensure quality. The workmanship from INCA member Hamilton Contractors was of the highest standards and followed best practice. The high standard of works alongside the quality products realised the architects design and resulted in an impressive and successful EWI refurbishment project.
